These bits of foolishness aren’t logically required in young earth creationism, although believers in YEC do tend to take all that nonsense literally.

In contrast, I’m pretty sure YEC invokes flood geology for pretty much all geological features seen today. They don’t have much choice in the matter since they have to reject all real knowledge of geology to maintain their world view.

A YEC is a literalist. They take their authority’s interpretation of everything in the Bible literally.
