Is it really a federal requirement that I produce a physical original or certified copy of my birth certificate for employment? My last job, since HR was in California and I was here in Texas I just got my uncle to scan my birth certificate and save it into a PDF, which I emailed to HR.

I’m being told they need a physical document so now I have to go spend money and time at the Vital Statistics office for no goddamn reason. Why isn’t the same scanned document good enough? Blah.

Go to the last page for the requirements. If you have a passport that’s all you need.

If you have a drivers licence and a social security card, that is all you need.

If not, you need the drivers license and the birth cert.
