One thing that does bother me a bit is that while creationists remain a fairly steady fraction of the American electorate, many young people are being attracted to a form of secular hate-right that is decidedly moving away from Evangelicalism/Fundamentalist Christianity.

Some of this may be seen as simply opportunistic gold mining - CCJ being an easy example. There are the likes of Milo… oh, let’s not forget our Executive Dogmatist, Bannon.

These folk are wedded to the hate-industry, and are not going to limit themselves to the “Jesus” tag.

I have a couple of these in my Facebook stream. Secular hard right types, quite fine with police killing black Americans, etc. Quite disturbing.

This is why I tend to like people who stress humanism, over atheism. Though I think the creationists are quite in error, I think even more important to my life and everyone else’s is that we learn to be more cooperative, more willing to create a society that nurtures, and not destroy.

Simply fighting creationists is not enough. The need for which religion was invented still needs addressing.

So, as a possible antidote to our current political/social dilemma, I’d like to see a new humanist movement take root, where an acceptance of what life is like, and has to be like, in the 21st century takes preeminence.

We have to learn globally and locally how to get along better.
