I know I signed off earlier, but I will make one last post.

The road to hell is paved with good intent. I think a safety net is not a bad thing. Having said that, just like other government programs, there are people out there who work harder to game the system than they would at their place of employment.

Every day, I deal with people who feel entitled to everything under the sun. It is often a cycle businesses would use during a layoff. I have patients who pursue losing their jobs almost every summer, if not getting temporary disability every summer for some time off.

I never went to school to be conscripted into the welfare state as a pencil pusher. I could go on for days, and some of it would seem comical. But some of it is so bad, these people have no shame in coming right out and telling you they are gaming the system. Right to my face.

I don’t know what the answer is, but I will tell you, it is abused, and abused badly.
