The 2nd was very poorly written IMO.

It was written as it was intended. The thought of self-defense being something that had to be included in the constitution was not something the founding fathers thought of —as the definition of a free person inherently included the right to self-defense.

slaves were specifically excluded from defending their bodies, as they did not own their bodies.
