The Koch Bros are libertarians not theocrats. Their only concern is maximizing their wealth during their lifetime, not the future of the planet or the country. They certainly know that climate change is real but they are afraid that if the government takes any action to save the planet, it would affect their bottom line. They may not be as smart as they think they are — that seems to be a common failing among libertarians. It’s not until their whole endeavor collapses around them that they temporarily awake and demand help from the government.

More than half the Koch brothers’ net worth is untapped reserves. A majority of the rest is pipelines, refineries, and tankers. The more the world shifts to solar and wind, the less their assets are worth. And if we put a moratorium on new drilling, they’re downgraded from the 3rd/4th richest men in America to about 397th/398th. This is their entire motivation.
