I’m not saying that we should practice politics of vindictiveness against them, much as some might want to, and even if the dark corners of my heart might agree. That way lies madness. The only way forward must be to do the right thing, for the cultists as well as for ordinary people.

But it is also true that expecting them to change their vote or change their mind is folly, even if Republicans personally harm them. Any scenario that expects that is suspect, and any strategy that relies on that is doomed to failure.
