I would guess he does know what those words mean, but to his intended audience they are simply for a Pavlovian response of “liberals are trying to destroy our country.”

I never found Europe to be a hell hole in any country I was in (Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, England, Scotland, Germany, Poland).
