Peter King is retiring… that makes 20 Republicans in the House not seeking re-election this time. If my math is right, that makes 88 Republicans in the House that have either lost re-election or retired/resigned since Trump’s victory in 2016 (when they won 241 seats in the House).

Well, with all due respect to Sen. Schumer*, I’d say “good riddance” to the prospect of Peter King (R-IRA) retiring: but the bigger issue isn’t King - or the (so far) 20 other GOPer Reps. not going to return for the 117th - but who is going to replace them. Since in this day and age, any replacement for a Republican is only too likely to be considerably worse than the (any) incumbent.
Unfortunately, given the pervasive gerrymandering (and persistent political attitudes) in so much of “red” America, it’s hard to see the Democrats making the sort of electoral gains at the House-district level that would, say, lead to an FDR-style supermajority in the House (and never mind the Senate).

* And, as much as I like Chuck, I’d say in this particular instance, the answer is “not much”
