Personally, I like ampeg a bunch. I’m dying to get a 70’s V2 or V4, despite the “where the hell am I gonna use THIS?” factor.
When I first hooked up with that band, the bass player was using a Gallien-Krueger little solid state head. Don’t know if its a coincidence, but shortly after I started toting their amps, he got a big-ass Ampeg tube head. I liked the GK sound just fine, but the Ampeg just seemed to have a lot more, I don’t know, impact? Definitely had more impact on my back.
Somebody makes a pedal that is meant to recreate the SVT sound - if my unemployment ever gets paid maybe I can splurge…

Yes, I remember the Ampeg amps being very heavy, but the next band I was in with the Marshall 50’s also carried a Hammond Model A with an original cabinet. We used piano moving lifts with handles but it still took four of us to carry it
