The issue of income disparity has become mainstream to a large extent because of OWS. By itself it could never become a political force without forming a new political party, which obviously won’t happen, anymore than black neighborhood riots in the past did.

However there is a lasting effect and the sentiments won’t go away however badly they may be expressed, while the economic circumstances remain. Attention will be paid, regardless of the disparaging remarks by the likes of the Newt, who struck me as coincidentally having a lot in common with Putin recently.

OWS itself will go the way of the ether, just like a lot of other movements before it. However, the issues they raised and the general ideas they talked about with respect to income inequality are going to stick around for a while.
