Nope. Regions don’t matter so much as Romney’s weaknesses are in the deep red states, which are going to stay red regardless. He needs to inspire turnout in close states in some fashion.

That means pulling states like Pennsylvania and maybe Wisconsin. The two routes are to appeal to the disgruntled crazy-base and excite them so they overwhelm the blue in those states, or bring back the women who are leaving in droves and overwhelm the blue that way.

The problem with the crazies is that’s who is driving away the women. The women, on the other hand, annoy but do not drive away the crazies. The math works.

Note this doesn’t mean it is what Romney will do, it just shows the avenue.

(And yes, the reasoning is such that Bachmann makes a great possibility. All you have to do is ignore reality.)

You’re right that the Confederacy will vote against Obama in all cases, but there is a lot of shoring up to do in evangelical, oyster-free ‘Real America”. How about Romney/Huckabee? You know, for the ‘human’ touch.
