Some of the reports about the Freedom Group, including the NYT article I cite, relate to ongoing conspiracy theories that Soros was busy buying them up so that he could eventually kill the companies outright. Those nutty conspiracy theories got so bad that the NRA had to issue statements to the contrary and that Soros had nothing to do with the purchases but that it was another private equity group doing the acquisitions.

I couldn’t speak to the QC for the weapons.
