Actually, real eggs dry out over time. As in months or years. They can kind of explode in the intervening period, especially if it is hot, which is suboptimal, but I made pysanky many, many years ago and didn’t blow the eggs first. It worked out fine. Mostly.
My cats would have chosen the least opportune time to do anything with them.
There are plastic. I’m fairly certain they won’t be nearly as attractive to the kitties.
