Even though Roseanne is a Truther and a Trumpist IRL, people seem to forget that she was a hot mess during the show’s first run too; the thing that made the first time around so good and enjoyable wasn’t just her, but the entire cast; I’ll say that should be the yardstick this time around, too.

The yardstick may be the same but the context against which it is measuring has changed. Her hot mess isn’t just an abstract spectacle any more, it’s a reflection of very real harm being inflicted on vulnerable minorities, and for the rest of the cast to co-sign onto this mercenary attempt at normalization is inexcusable.
