It’s not even DoD’s wish list… when the Republicans are in charge of Congress, they vote for acquisitions the Pentagon doesn’t even want. Stuff that isn’t needed, doesn’t work, and is way more expensive than the needed and/or working stuff that it’s supposed to replace.

It’s because defense contractors (aka the military-industrial complex) has been proactive in situating their make-work factories in hundreds of congressional districts.

I remember a while back the Air Force wanted more Boeing C17’s but the Congresscritters in Lockheed districts got it changed to more C130s that the Air Force didn’t want.
