High-reliability polls are very expensive and not available for free. We are basically blind to the reality of the moment. We still know what to do.

Given I’m a glass half empty type of person, I always believe polls that are negative and never believe polls that are positive. And anytime things seem to be going the right way, they are always overcome by bad news. I still recall my joy at Obama’s election in 2008 — but then Kennedy died and Scott Brown defeated Coakley, so Obama’s hands were tied in the Senate, after having only a few months of a veto proof majority in the Senate, followed by the 2010 GOP victory in the House.

We are living in a nightmare world and most of those I know IRL, whether pro or anti-Trump, express certainty that Trump will win re-election. Maybe it is just the experience of 2016 — but the fact that he is polling in the 40’s is reason to remain pessimistic — especially given all they are doing to undermine both confidence in the voting process and the voting process itself.
