The Fagradalsfjall volcano is taking a nap finally, after 6 days of continual eruption.

But it poured a lot of lava into Geldingadalir valley in those six days. And it flowed south. The authorities had ordered a berm constructed on the southwest side of Geldingadalir way back in Spring, to keep the lava from spilling southwest towards the region which has a power plant and the town of Grindavik.

Let’s see how the berm did:

Well it looks like it held fine. But I noticed the big pile of now fresh basalt is higher than the berm just to the right. If this event goes on for many more months then they are going to need a bigger berm.
