The thing is, most of the stations that run Rush are ClearChannel corporate stations, not independents/competing radio chains; that may not sound like it’ll hurt Rush that much, but Rush is a “halo” show for CC stations.

If advertisers are dropping and avoiding Rush like the plague, those local program and sales directors for those CC stations are going to be raising holy hell when this affects the rate cards for the rest of their schedule.

I hadn’t even thought of that. Most small-market CC stations run Limbaugh at peak or near-peak hours. If they start losing money because they can’t sell their own ads at a premium, affiliates may start dropping the show.

Clear Channel has got a bigger problem here than anyone is letting on.
