Years ago, when I saw Independence Day, I thought afterwards, “You know, these extraterrestrials have been studying us for years (according to the script). So presumably, they know all about our biology, our genes, etc. If they’re smart enough to come all the way here in city-sized space vehicles, then I’d think they’d be smart enough to bioengineer some virulent, fast-acting lethal airborne pathogen. Inject that into the atmosphere and voila!…..aside from the problem of billions of dead humans stinking up the place, the planet’s theirs for the taking. No fuss, no muss. Just set the pathogen loose, and in about 72 hours or so, it’s game, set, match.”

Granted, wouldn’t be a terribly exciting film.
