The world split off into different timelines a few years ago and we drew the short straw.

I have a theory that we are in the midst of a time-travel war, in which factions from the future are disrupting events on our timeline. This is based only on the feeling of reality having jumped off the rails in 2016, and the normal course of events leaping around like a scared squirrel at random.

Mabye in the future, an immortal Cyborg Hillary Clinton reigned over a “progressive globalist” world, and a “resistance” faction of Republicans hiding out in Russia sent someone back to set up an election-throwing effort with Putin to make sure Clinton never happened. And it’s been move-countermove on our timeline ever since.
