One possibility: ignorant of the news about white supremacists, which would be a major flaw for a potential future officer.
Second possibility: perfectly aware and engaged in a white supremacist troll, which should be disqualifying for future leadership roles.

third possibility: they’re a bunch of 18 year olds who don’t know white supremacist memes because that is something that has just never occurred to any of them. And yes, 18 year olds are remarkably oblivious of current events—even ones who come out of really good prep schools and wind up in my classes. They don’t watch news. They don’t read news. My students look at me blankly when I mention television that was on 10 years ago. They were 8 years old at that time. They don’t know what The Wire is. They’ve never seen the Sopranos. The vast majority have no idea who Elton John is, or an ability to name the presidents in order after, say, Franklin Roosevelt.
