Buzzfeed reported that a whistleblower at Facebook revealed widespread abuse by bad actors using fake accounts. They’ve been removing accounts, but it occurs to me that this leaves the bad actors no worse off than when they started. Facebook needs to reveal what the fake accounts were doing, so that steps can be taken to counter whatever it was and partially undo the damage.

Facebook needs to make profits. They don’t care how they do it.

What they need is regulation. In the cases where they refuse to intervene in things like genocide, that makes them complicit in genocide and they need to be put on trial.

Watch how fast anti-social media companies clean up their acts if some of their board members go to jail for crimes against humanity.

As Twitter noted, they can’t kick off the Nazis because their algorithms can’t tell them from Republican politicians. (That says something about the GOP.) What Twitter won’t do is hire enough people to moderate their anti-social media platform. Hiring people costs money, and never get between a libertarian and his money.
