Another reason why I don’t automatically give military folks and veterans any special points for political acumen. Good reason to never, ever institute “Service Guarantees Citizenship*” a la “Starship Troopers”.

As I have noted before, my mother refused to vote as a veteran. She takes the “military is subservient to the civilian government” indoctrination very seriously. She takes it seriously enough that as a veteran herself, she felt she should not even consider voting for the civilians who run the government.

She was disappointed and upset that as a veteran I ran for election to my village board. It took her a couple years to accept that as a veteran myself I should represent my community on the city council.

She registered to vote for her first time to vote for Hillary Clinton and Tammy Duckworth.
