How could a judge not be aware of two prior convictions? I mean, I’m not a lawyer, so I really don’t know how that’d be possible.

I have a feeling that he knew quite well of the rapist’s background but had to be publicly reminded that he knew and quickly backtracked after getting a lot of outraged responses to his previous rulings.
