My apologies, I took it from Alouette’s comment. Going back and reading the original Ynet story, it seems pretty clear that the Hassadim knew the risk’s they were taking and decided to do it anyway. From Ynet:

It’s horrible that people got killed over this, but they knew the risks and took them anyway.

They are guilty of being stupid.

It is true they should not have gone. Clearly, they were not armed (they would have shot back) so the only conclusion is that they were summarily executed.

It is clear they did not deserve to be murdered and it is also true the religious site should not have been desecrated.

I wonder why that happened?
