Tony Windsor says he is not running - so Joyce will win. It seems Joyce has the unfair advantage. The senators have lost their seats and will be replaced by someone they defeated at the last election. Barnaby Joyce has lost his seat but he can immediately run for reelection. If would be fairer if the seat went to his closest opponent in the last election (who I think was Tony Windsor) - given he was ineligible to stand at that time.

Yeah I listened to a long radio interview with Windsor this arvo. I like that he seems so engaged in the problem of the Coalition’s absenteeism over climate change and obviously thinks Joyce is selling out rural Australia fir short-term political gain. I was agreeing with him but as it became clear he wasn’t interested in running I then thought, ‘well why are you talking?’

It’s a bit of a big nothing at the moment, I guess we’ll see whether Turnbull decides to suspend parliament or just holds up business with procedural stuff. Haha their MPs will definitely have to be chained to the house floor, can’t have Labor taking over again like tgey did at the start of the year.
