It never ceases to amaze me that in the race to slash the fuck out of budgets, education is so severely targeted.

Surely there must be plenty of wasteful spending we could curb before screwing kids out of decent textbooks?

When we elect people to “run government like a business” they look on things like health care, education, public safety, environment, etc., as cost factors to be cut instead of as investments in a healthy, prosperous and well-educated society.
