It’s intresting to look at the difference between this and the Weiner thing. I mean, quite different stories, but still instructive.

Moderates and those on the ‘left’ defended Weiner at first becaues the source was Breitbart, who’s a liar and a con-man. But as soon as it became obvious what had gone down, people became pissed at him, stopped defending him.

In this case, Brevick is clearly a seamless part of the anti-Islam right wing. His opinions are barely distinguishable from theirs, except that his are rather more explicit. And yet they can’t deal with this, they try to deny any connection with him, they try to claim he’s really a liberal, they try to claim that there’s no relationship between his views and theirs. The number of them who are trying to learn anything from the incident is very, very low.
