You can’t assemble the words said and come up with the quote you want.
You would not allow it if someone did that with an Obama speech.
It’s not a quote. If the whole thing was surrounded by “”, that’s a quote. It was a paraphrase or summary, that included in it three phrases actually used and accurately quoted. Was the paraphrase inaccurate or unfaithful to the intent and meaning of the speaker? I don’t think so. Did including the phrases make it more faithful to the original? I do think so.
To be clear, are you really arguing that what D’Souza said was misrepresented, or are you arguing that it was accurately represented and you agree with him?
