Browsing around the fantasy genre of films to find something to watch I came across this:

The Blazing World

I found parts of it very interesting. It is not a good movie, by my standards, because the structure of the film promises a plot like standard movies but half way through it switches into more of a collage of interpretive film.

The blurb on IMDB:

Decades after the accidental drowning of her twin sister, a self-destructive young woman returns to her family home, finding herself drawn to an alternate dimension where her sister may still be alive.

… is misleading. As are the genre tags of “comedy” and “adventure”. In reality it is straight up fantasy that bends towards horror in parts.

Only recommended to those who like film as a medium to explore, again, because the film will fail if you expect it to be a cohesive story.

Also, the lead actor, Carlson Young, may be familiar to some from her work as an actress, but here she was the director (and co-writer) and I think she shows promise as this is her first real production in which she was in such control.

One part, set in a desert, I found rather compelling as a horror story, without resorting to blood and guts.
