The current GOP approach (which is in fact very similar, I think, to other RW parties around the world) is to make a bunch of noise about stuff which doesn’t actually happen, and meanwhile to fractionally divert money from poor people to rich people.

If you shift 0.1% of Federal spending from food stamps to some bland-sounding contracted program, you’ve suddenly taken a massive amount of money from a lot of poor people and given it to one very rich person.

Especially if it is a no-bid, cost-plus contract.
