Modern democracy requires a literate and educated electorate. When that goes downhill, democracy suffers. And as long as education is not seen as an investment in society but as an overhead cost that is to be kept to a minimum, then things will continue to go downhill

Looking at the largely successful history of our country, it’s obvious that a lot of democracy depends on dumb luck.
