Being not very bright and easily manipulated, the family feared he might just do it. That’s why after the marriage they were exiled.

Throughout the war, when things were going badly, Wallis retained hope that if/when Germany won they’d be returned to the throne.

wow, so it was a lot more fucked up than what we read about it…one forgets how popular fascism was in certain circles, both aristocratic and working-class, in the UK and the USA in the 30’s…
