The big thing is the shift in focus, from the early day “These are the communities Dems need to win back!” to the current “These are the communities that still cling to Trump despite his being a total fuck-up.” By this time next year, it will be “These are the communities that are totally going to give Trump a second term!”

You know, my mom’s family comes from one of those areas and I have fond, fond memories of visiting there as a kid. My great aunts and uncles were great people. And you know what, I enjoyed visiting Johnstown again last summer meeting my mom’s cousin for the first time as we saw the house that her mother- my grandfather’s sister grew up in but those areas just don’t want to progress. They poo-poo legitimate suggestions on how they can improve their economies because they look down on environmentalists and liberals. They don’t deserve to suffer obviously but they don’t get any real scolding for their refusal to adapt.
