Just read the article; twice, actually, to make sure I didn’t miss something.

I can see why it’s yanking people’s chains. It’s not heavy on “OMFG, what a horrible monster!” Taking that tone, it’s easy to see how people would think it skirts the edge of almost absolving Dorner for his actions.

I think the big problem is that the article brings up the question of “Why did he do this?”, which is hard to discuss without engaging the LAPD’s abysmal race on relations record. This is even more uncomfortable given the murder victims were either cops or innocent people.

Dorner was a cold-blooded murderer, pure and simple. I’m sorry that he chose the path he did, given the destruction of people’s lives and families it caused. However, it’s brought to the forefront a cripplingly divisive issue in the nation’s second largest police force. That needs to be addressed.
