I start to lose confidence in family trees before the Revolution here in the US. Elsewhere in the world the dates may vary a bit, but before the 18th century records become really spotty in most places.

Yeah no doubt. Honestly in a lot of places, there aren’t any records before the 18th century. Ireland started registering births in the 1860’s I believe which makes me SOL since my last direct ancestor left Ireland in the early 1850’s.
