re: #246 A Mom Anon

I honestly believe that most suicides aren’t about death. They’re about wanting the pain to stop. Depression lies like a motherfucker, tells you no one cares, your life is worthless and you are not worthy of love. It doesn’t just go away when you’re having a good day, or by thinking more positive thoughts(that drives me completely into a fit a wanting to slap people). It hurts. every.fucking.day. It’s there when you wake up and before you fall asleep. It’s there when you’re celebrating something and on the outside people think you’re fine.

It’s relentless. And exhausting. It gets in the way of everything no matter how successful you are or aren’t. And after awhile a lot of people just can’t cope anymore. It’s not selfish, it’s sad. When your brain is wired this way you don’t think too far around the corner, you just want the pain to stop.

What we fucking need is more mental healthcare options. Facilities that don’t cost 40K a month for care that’s not always based on science and medicine. More research into how our brains work and how much we actually can do as patients and how much medical intervention works and how it varies in individuals. Research into treatment options. We also lack the sheer numbers of therapists and medical personnel needed to handle the issue. College degrees are not cheap and I fear a lot of awesome potential doctors and therapists are repelled by the cost. There aren’t enough beds, the system is broken. Stigma doesn’t help either.

We have work to do.

We need to stop being a selfish society IMO. Saw a tweet from Ivanka Trump showing sadness for Kate Spade’s death and someone correctly pointed out how her father’s budget takes quite a bit of funds away from mental health. That’s exactly why Sam Bee called her a feckless C***, talk a good game but do nothing ultimately. We’re too damn whiny about the fact that our taxes may go up rather than help our fellow man.

I think there may lay a portion of the resistance to socialized healthcare. If healthcare is socialized, then the govt will get specified what portion goes to what care etc. And if one or a handful of those bullet points on the list are remarkably large, the govt has to figure out why it is so and how to prevent it.

I figured a long time ago that the resistance to socialized healthcare is basically avoiding to realize, in an in-your-face fashion, that todays society is so flawed it breaks a sad amount of people.
