They did have such a program in Lubbock, believe it or not, in the 80s. An acquaintance was depressed and called the suicide hotline. With his permission, Lubbock MHMR (a local agency but funded by the state) sent out an emergency response team that consisted of an EMT, two mental health RNs, and a social worker. They met with him in a park across the street and persuaded him to come with them for an inpatient screening. To the best of my knowledge, nothing remotely like this is available now and Texas mental health agency operate on a shoestring.

Must have been while Mark White, the Democrat, was in office. It’s difficult to believe that the Republican Bill Clements would have supported a program that benefited average citizens. But then I do not now nor have I ever lived in Texas.
