Sure, it’s tricky. But I think that the man who believes in the Protocols of the Elders of Zion - even if he reinterprets them as “reptiloid conspiracy”, is not above suspicion in what concerns racism. So this “fits”, more or less.

This is actually my bigger problem with Ronson, I think. If he toned down the “isn’t this crazy” stuff, or even just presented it in a less ambiguous way, he would be more effective in exposing the stuff he covers. As it is it becomes easier to dismiss it.

To continue this example, why didn’t he try to find out who this particular member of Icke’s entourage was? He could (presumably) have asked him, or Icke, for his name. If the guy had refused to answer, Ronson could have reported that refusal.

By publishing a name, or some more identifying information, of course, Ronson/The Guardian open themselves up to a libel case. But that’s what gives you the confidence that the phrase was, in fact, spoken.
