It’s funny— when studying cultures and histories, there’s what one of my friends whose a history dude calls “The problem of the obvious”. Some things don’t get mentioned because they’re just too fucking obvious, too bound up in what society is as a whole.

His modern example of this is ‘sense of humor’, which is written down on nearly every internet personals ad as something they want, but nobody ever really explains why.
