And it worked. And you know what, I could probably be civil to Bush if I ever met him. I get why people were pissed off at Ellen for saying what she said obviously but I get why people like her and Michele Obama have pointed him out as a person especially Michele. Michele dealt with a lot of ugliness from the right wing media but the Bushes to their credit were cordial to the Obamas from the start. That’s what I think people need to consider when they get upset at Michelle for declaring W her friend. The Obamas took a lot of shit from a lot of people for not doing the “right” thing but Laura and Dubya didn’t engage in that. Obviously I know Dubya disagreed with Obama’s policies but I never got the impression that he thought less of Obama as a person the way Romney did and certainly Trump does. I think McCain was a bit jealous of Obama but not contempt.

Personally, I wouldn’t piss on W if he was on fire. I see Michele and Ellen differently. The Bushes and Obamas are part of the elite club of former presidents and first ladies and have to behave a particular way at public events. Ellen, on the other hand, has no such obligations and cultivates a personality of being upbeat and positive. I just wish she’d not engage in rehabilitating the guy who lied us into a war.
