I must admit that I was put off religion by my Catholic upbringing and then my encounters with the Campus Crusade for Christ goombahs I met at college. Took me a while to get over that basic disinclination.

It was Christianity that made my husband an atheist. I feel bad for him. He hasn’t told me everything, but one night, after he went off on a particularly loud anti-religious rant, I said to him, “What did they do to you in parochial school?” He was dumbfounded by the remark. Stopped him cold. He never told me and I don’t ask.
