Infrastructure in the country is what keeps the economy going. Watch how everything can come to a standstill if a bridge fails, a road becomes impassible, a water main fails, a sewage treatment plant is overrun by flooding, etc.

Yet, our national spending to expand, replace, upgrade, or maintain these items is woeful compared to the need.

New York City has been working on NYC Water Tunnel 3 since the 1970s. It’s a 40+ year project, and it’s not done yet. Yet, when it’s completed it will allow the DEP to close the original water tunnel for repairs. One of the reasons that they need to do so is that the original tunnel is leaking water at a prodigious amount, and that’s costing taxpayers and damaging property along the way. If the tunnel actually failed, it would put most of NYC into a severe water shortage situation, even though the source of the water is unaffected. We’d have no way to get the water from the upstate reservoirs to the City.

Just finished reading the whole article. It must’ve been a tough sell to get the funding for such an (incredibly necessary) invisible project.
