This is why a large Democratic turnout is important in November.

Those results are just for the San Diego County part of CA-49. The results for the whole district are Issa 84,626 (50.8%), Applegate 75,828 (45.5%), Wingo 6,087 (3.7%). Still pretty bad for a longtime incumbent.

Looking at other districts, David Valadao only got 54% of the vote in the 21st, Steve Knight got just 48.3% in the 25th (and all Republicans combined for 55.6%), Ken Calvert is under 55% in the 42nd, and Dana Rohrabacher’s at 56.6% in the 48th. Good selection of pickup opportunities for California Democrats.
