A while back, I pointed out to a friend, who was disturbed how many Millenials are willing to embrace Socialism (From Each/To Each Socialism), that young people generally have good reason to feel ill-served by Capitalism. This is an underappreciated bit of history - Americans flirted with all sorts of crazy governmental and economic ideas before WWII, largely because Capitalism wasn’t really serving the average guy all that well. During the Cold War, Communism didn’t really catch on because we had harnessed Capitalism and gotten it to work for everybody.

But since the advent of Reagan, we’ve increasingly deregulated it and now it’s serving fewer and fewer people, and young people least of all.

It doesn’t have to be that way.

Exactly. Said better than I could. I get tired of older boomers and even Gen Xers who crap on pyople in my generation for not being rah rah capitalism and I just feel like saying gude do you even consider how much regulations we had when you were growing up. We never were your capitalist wet dream. Your beloved 1950’s? Probably among the most socialist time we’ve ever been as a nation and we prospered. I don’t see socialism as a cure all but I certainly don’t see their vision of capitalism either because it’s based on a lie.
