Single payer, which is the only alternative proposal for complete coverage under discussion in this country, is not socialized medicine. As far as I can tell, those opposed to the ACA and/or single payer basically do not want to pay for other people’s care. They will use different arguments but it really comes down to being selfish and lacking empathy. You know — Granny starvers like Paul Ryan.

It is a lack of basic understanding of the economic model under which health care works. It is not just paying for each visit to the doctor/dentist, but in minimizing the overall costs of healthcare.

We already have socialized medicine in form of the Emergency Health Care Act, which means that emergency care will be provided regardless of ability to pay…and what happens in the cases of those who cannot?

It gets SOCIALIZED. As in the costs get passed on the the diminishing pool of people who can still afford insurance.

And a lot of emergency care could be avoided by simple treatment, pills or therapy that might cost a few hundred bucks instead of an emergency operation that costs tens of thousands.
