The other Ivies had no choice but to follow Princeton’s lead. But I’m not sure how other expensive private schools, like Stanford, responded.

Stanford is tuition-free for anyone whose parents make less than six figures, sliding-scale for students from wealthier families.

Alumni like it so much they’ve increased their donations. Professors have reported that economic diversity has improved the quality of class discussion, broadened the range of term paper topics, and brought in a harder-working, more serious set of students (fewer alcohol-related mishaps, fewer lazy freshmen dropping out), and local businesses are happier with the range of applicants for their internships.
