Too many in white America are afraid to be honest about racism and it’s unfortunate because we need this conversation.
The problem I fear is that even if confronted, even if it’s laid out clear as day, that the majority will stare, shrug, and let it go precisely because ‘it won’t affect me’, and let it go, or even outright embrace it precisely because ‘it’ll never affect me’.
I fear constantly that when push comes to shove, America really will chose Racism overtly every time. That we really are a hopelessly racist country at its core, and that the backlash to changing it really will win in the end every time.
