More than that. The 14th Amendment basically just reversed the Dred Scott decision. For the first time ever, there was a substantial population that weren’t citizens, even though they were born here. The 14th took care of that, but birthright citizenship was baked into English Common Law for centuries before there was a United States—and if the wingnuts are about anything, it’s English Common law. That and Jesus wrote the King James Bible in English.
I was having a neat conversation about citizenship with an Irishman. Birthright citizenship was a thing way back when. Eliminating it is yet another example of how radical the right is.
